Cloud MS Azure SSO and Self-Service Password Reset

Implement MS Azure Active Directory Cloud Single Sign On (SSO) and expand to all users for Office 365 only. Implement Azure Self-Service Password Reset.

Information Technology Services (ITS) is working to update SF State’s current SSO and Password Reset services to Microsoft Azure. Microsoft Azure services will offer secure and seamless access to SF State web services while also enforcing password strength.

What is Single Sign-On?

Single Sign On (SSO) is an authentication method that allows users to sign in using one set of credentials to multiple independent software systems. Using SSO means a user doesn't have to sign into every application they use. With SSO, users can access all needed applications without being required to authenticate using different credentials.

Benefits of Microsoft Azure Integration

  • Improve security by enabling advanced security functionality

  • Use Azure Self-Service Password Reset tool to enforce password strength

  • Resolves security issues with weak passwords

  • Reduce security risk and overhead for maintaining a custom application for password resets

  • Functionality to manage existing Microsoft 365 apps

  • Eliminate a need to maintain separate instance of SSO for Disaster Recovery

  • Reduce or completely retire Shibboleth SSO infrastructure

Note: This project will only include the integration between Office 365 and MS Azure SSO and the self-service password tool. No changes on user devices nor reboots will be required.
