Login Name Format Change from username@sfsu.edu to SF-State-9-digit-ID@sfsu.edu (Friday, May 27, 2022, at 9 a.m. – Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 9 a.m.)

Overview

To improve user experience across multiple cloud services and better position the campus for future improvements, ITS will introduce a new login name format in the form of SF-State-9-digit-ID@sfsu.edu. This will enable users to maintain consistency across all system logins and will simplify account provisioning. From Friday, May 27, 2022, at 9 a.m. – Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 9 a.m., ITS will migrate all SF State user accounts from username@sfsu.edu to SF-State-9-digit-ID@sfsu.edu.  This update will be made in campus Active Directory (AD).

What Can You Expect

While using SF-State-9-digit-ID for campus computer login, and email as a login name for SF State Global Login and campus Wi-Fi will continue to be supported, it is recommended that users switch to the new login name format (SF-State-9-digit-ID@sfsu.edu) following this change for all SF State services.

SF State Removing Automatic Email Forwarding for All Users (Friday, May 27, 2022, at 5:30 p.m.)

Overview

On Friday, May 27, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., SF State will remove the automatic email forwarding settings for all users. This change will improve the campus email security posture and bring all users to the same configurations. ITS has already implemented this for faculty and staff.

What Can You Expect

Automatic email forwarding will stop functioning on Friday, May 27, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. This will affect users who have automatic email forwarding set up, mostly students and secondary email accounts.

Anyone who wishes to have emails forwarded can still do so by setting up an email forwarding rule in Microsoft Outlook. Instructions for setting that up are in the IT Knowledge Base article How to create an email forwarding rule in Outlook Web Access. Additionally, anyone can manually forward an email.

Mailman Distribution List to Sympa Migration (Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

Overview

ITS will be migrating the campus listserv called Mailman to new Sympa listserv software on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Mailman listserv (listname@lists.sfsu.edu lists) is primarily used for collaborating with non-SF State email addresses, or a list which has many members. Migrating to Sympa will improve security and reliability. It will also introduce a native management interface that offers advanced configuration features. This will improve the service experience and enable users to self-manage all aspects of their mailing lists.

What Can You Expect

After the migration is completed, all SF State mailing list owners, moderators, and subscribers who have Faculty or Staff privileges will be able to log in to Sympa with their SF State single sign-on at:

https://lists.sfsu.edu

Mailman distribution lists WILL NOT be available during and after the migration. All distribution lists will be migrated to Sympa, but their list names and addresses will remain the same. Please note that archived messages in Mailman WILL NOT migrate to Sympa. Please do double-check that your list configurations are properly migrated and functioning as expected.

John S.

I really appreciate the effort and time that Tuan's team had put into this project. It made a huge improvement from the previous process.

Employees are able to sign up for direct deposit via self-services, and the process time reduce from 4-6 weeks to 1-2 weeks.

Thank you again!!
